This year’s PolyU Design Annual Show showcased creative ideas from design graduates. Among them, “Libue” – a Parkinson’s-friendly toilet designed by Emily Tang majored in industrial and product design, was selected as one of the “Tutors’ Choices”.

Her design was inspired by her Parkinsonian grandfather. Motor ability of Parkinson’s patients is gradually deteriorating; toileting has thus become one of their living challenges. With abridged toileting steps, this Parkinson’s-friendly toilet facilitates users to sit on the bidet directly by holding the circular rail that comes with it without turning around. Also, the built-in pressure sensor in the bidet seat allows automatic flushing. It also comes with ordinary and Parkinson’s-friendly bidets, allowing for both patients’ and family members’ use.

To benefit more patients and their families, Emily has enrolled in “Good Seed” programme jointly organized by PolyU and the Government and wishes this toilet can be funded for mass production.
