With his innovative product designs, Mr Alan Kwok Siu-lun, PolyU alumnus graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering’s Product Analysis and Engineering Design programme, won the Winner Award and the Honourable Mention Award of the Red Dot Design Award: Product Design 2014 held in Germany.

Applying the patented design of gear rack and coupling mechanism, the “Squarish Salad Spinner” won the Winter Award among 4,815 entries from 53 countries. This novel innovation can dry vegetables and fruits efficiently with little effort. In addition, the Honourable Mention Award went to his “Swift Drum Grater” with four stainless steel drums - a slicer, a cheese grater, a fine and a coarse vegetable grater with the benefit of easy assembling and expedient storage. These two products are now collected and displayed at the Red Dot Museums in Germany and Singapore.
