A student team – "The Era" launched an experiential hydroponic farming project on campus, with the objective of imparting knowledge of green living on PolyU students and staff. Under the project, participants planted vegetables using solar-hydroponic technology with mineral nutrient solutions. They experienced the fun of green farming without the use of soil which commonly contains heavy metals and harmful substances.

Earlier on, the project won the Grand Award at PolyU Micro Fund for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Innovation Stream), the Excellence Award of Innovation at the Global Student Challenge: PolyU Pre-Challenge 2014, and was selected as one of the winning projects of the UGC Funding for Student-Initiated Projects.
