PolyU Base for Commercialization, Training and Research in Shenzhen and Southwest Jiaotong University Railway Development Co. Ltd. of the Southwest Jiaotong University recently signed a collaborative agreement to further the research and technology development of China's High-Speed Rail. Officiating at the signing ceremony were Prof. Zhou Benkuan, Chairman of the Board of Director of Southwest Jiaotong University Railway Development Co. Ltd., and Prof. Alex Wai, PolyU Vice President (Research Development).

At the ceremony, Prof. Tam Hwa-yaw at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Prof. Ni Yiqing at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering illustrated the joint research outcomes of applying Fiber Bragg Grating technology in automatic monitoring of subsidence in the Beijing-Shanghai High-Speed Rail as well as the use of dampers to reduce vibration and improve stability of trains. In relation, PolyU has established a strong cross-disciplinary team to explore the application of advanced sensing technology in High-Speed Rail. Details>>
