OptoElectronics and Communications Conference held in Hong Kong for the first time

President Timothy Tong delivered an opening address to over 500 participants from the academia and industry who attended the 14th OptoElectronics and Communications Conference (OECC 2009) held for the first time in Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 13 to 17 July. According to Prof. Alex Wai, Dean of PolyU’s Faculty of Engineering, and Conference Chair of the OECC 2009, the Conference served as a platform to germinate and exchange new ideas about the current and future applications of technologies in the optoelectronics and optical communications professions.

The plenary presentations in OECC 2009 were given by three distinguished speakers. They were Prof. Alan Willner from University of Southern California who is a world renowned researcher in photonics and optical communications, Prof. Martin Green from University of New South Wales who is a pioneer in solar energy and his group produces silicon solar cells with efficiency of 25%, and Prof. Wen Liu from FiberHome FuHua Electric Co. Ltd., the third largest optoelectronics component company in China.
