Blissful opening of Jockey Club Innovation Tower

On 18 March, PolyU celebrated the official opening of its iconic Jockey Club Innovation Tower (JCIT) with friends and professionals coming from all over the world. Masterminded by world-renowned architect Zaha Hadid, this seamlessly fluid structure is home to the School of Design (SD) and the Jockey Club Design Institute for Social Innovation (JCDISI) and is realized with the generous donation from The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.

Officiating the plaque unveiling ceremony at this festive event were Ms Marjorie Yang Mun-tak, PolyU Council Chairman; Mr T. Brian Stevenson, Chairman of The Hong Kong Jockey Club; and Prof. Timothy W. Tong, PolyU President. To signify the collective efforts and support from different parties in constructing this symbolic building, all other officiating guests joined in to make commemorative hand-molds. They included the Hon. Eddie Ng Hak-kim, Secretary for Education of the HKSAR Government; Prof. Roy Chung Chi-ping, PolyU Court Chairman; Dr Victor Lo Chung-wing, Immediate Past Chairman of PolyU Council; Ms Eva Yam, Deputy Secretary-General of University Grants Committee; Prof. Cees de Bont, Dean and Chair Professor of SD; Dame Zaha Hadid and Mr Patrik Schumacher, ZahaHadid Architects; and Mr Lai Wai-kin, President of PolyU Students’ Union.

Following the grand opening of JCIT, a series of celebratory events was launched to commemorate the 50th anniversary of SD. Details>>
