PolyU President's US visit – from Mississippi to California

PolyU President Prof. Timothy W. Tong visited the US in July. On 6 July, he attended the launching ceremony of “mycar”, the first home-grown electric vehicle jointly developed by PolyU and EuAuto Technology Ltd, in Horn Lake, Mississippi, with former US President Bill Clinton as the Guest of Honour. The event saw the unveiling of this revolutionary green vehicle by the US auto maker GreenTech Automotive (GTA).

“mycar” is a masterpiece of a local team comprising professors from PolyU and engineers from its business partner, with its body designed by Italian master Giorgetto Giugiaro. In 2010, PolyU and EuAuto Technology Ltd sealed a landmark deal with GTA to take “mycar” to the US market.

After that, Prof. Tong had a brief stay in Los Angeles where he paid a visit to the PolyU (Southern California) Association. He gathered with PolyU alumni and former staff residing there and updated them on the latest development of the University.
