PolyU embraces cultural diversity at Inaugural International Weeks

To further promote internationalization, PolyU recently organized its first-ever International Weeks with a theme on "Appreciating and Embracing Global Diversity". The event was supported by Consulate-Generals and Chambers of Commerce in Hong Kong as well as faculty and school members, students and alumni of the University.

Officiating at the opening ceremony on 24 March were PolyU President Professor Timothy W. Tong and Vice President (International and Executive Education) Professor Judy Tsui, together with 25 senior representatives of the Consulate-Generals in Hong Kong from 21 countries.

The International Weeks were filled with a dazzling and varied range of dance, music and theatre performances, seminars, workshops and cultural trails, and an international film series. Details>>

Never give up, Japan!

PolyU’s Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies dedicated one of the events, titled “Never Give Up, Japan”, in the International Weeks to lend sympathy and support to Japan and its people.

During the event held on campus on 28 March, staff and students, including Japanese teachers and exchange students at PolyU, gathered to fold hundreds of origami offerings, which symbolize hope and praying for recovery. They also wrote messages of support for Japanese earthquake victims.

PolyU is also launching a campus-wide campaign to collect donations from the university community for the victims. All donations will be forwarded to Hong Kong Red Cross for quake relief in Japan. Details>>
