PolyU spirit shines at
HK Marathon

The high-spirited PolyU runners,all wearing the smart red tee of the PolyU Running Team, made a strong and prominent presence at the hottest event in town—Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2010 held on 28 February. For every 20 runners on the track, one was from PolyU! They were greeted enthusiastically by hundreds of cheering team members from the starting point to the moment they crossed the finishing line.

With 3,100 students, staff, alumni and their family members and friends joining the PolyU Running Team, we are the Champion winning the “Most Supportive Group Award” of the Hong Kong Marathon this year, setting a new record for the event by sending forth the largest single team ever! Thanks to all who joined our Team.

PolyU made a strong and prominent presence at the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon 2010 held on 28 February. For every 20 runners on the track, one was from PolyU, all wearing the smart red PolyU Running Team tee.
PolyU student Cheung Chun-fan (Department of Logistics and Maritime Studies, Higher Diploma year 2 student) won the Champion of Men’s Senior category and Men’s Overall Champion in the 10km race, with a winning time of 34:15. In addition, PolyU nursing graduate Mandy Choy Mun- Tse won the Second Runner-up of Women’s Senior category in the full marathon. President Professor Timothy W. Tong, fanned by staff and students, received the Champion of the “Most Supportive Group Award” on behalf of PolyU at a special ceremony held at Victoria Park on 20 February.
PolyU Vice President (Management) Prof. Thomas K.S.Wong (with number cloth A0391) participated in the 10km race for the first time this year. He kicked off the opening ceremony and cheered on the participants before the race.
Prof. Alex Wai, Associate Vice President and Dean of Faculty of Engineering (third row, wearing windbreaker) cheered on the participants of the half marathon and full marathon at the starting point at Tsim Sha Tsui before the race. PolyU’s Faculty of Health and Social Sciences and The Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre sent forth rehabilitation and health science experts and physiotherapists to support the marathon runners. Mr Benjamin Hung, Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer of Standard Chartered Bank (Hong Kong) Limited (seventh from left), visited the PolyU booth at the Marathon Carnival held on 20 February.
