The Confucius Institute of Hong Kong (CIHK) was officially inaugurated on 12 May 2006. PolyU was authorized by the China National Office for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language to set up and run the first and only Confucius Institute in Hong Kong to further promote Chinese language and culture in the territory.
