Mainland Study Programmes
During ones’ university life, ones may engage themselves in studying, participating in extra-curricular activities and part-time work. Apart from these, what other activities should be taken up? Being future heirs of society, students not only need to equip themselves with professional knowledge, but also to develop other attributes such as sense of social responsibility, leadership qualities, critical thoughts etc.
In the newly established 4-year curriculum, in addition to academic teaching, PolyU has also incorporated different types of enrichment programmes to deepen students’ learning experience. Activities and programmes such as Work Integrated Education, Leadership Training, credit-bearing summer courses and Service Learning programmes are to be held not only in Hong Kong, but also in China.
PolyU sees the growing need to enhance students’ understanding of the nation. Its annual Graduate Survey shows that more and more graduates are having a closer work relationship with the mainland, whether being located in China or dealing with mainland counterparts in their daily work. To better prepared the students for their future, apart from what the curriculum offers, PolyU has also organized wide-ranging short-term study tours to China. For example, the Mainland Experience Scheme in 2011 offered opportunities for over 600 students to visit Sichuan, Xi’an, Mongolia, Chongqing, Fujian, Hangzhou and Yunnan for community service, cultural appreciation and/or career preparatory training.
