鍾萬勰院士,工程力學與計算力學專家。1934年出生於上海,1956年畢業於上海同濟大學,同年分配到中國科學院力學研究所工作,任研究實習員。1962年調入大連工學院(現大連理工大學)工作至今。1993年當選為中國科學院院士。作為中國計算力學發展的奠基人之一,他曾任中國力學學會計算力學專業委員會首任主任委員,並任第一至四屆國際計算力學協會常務理事、英國威爾斯卡迪夫大學名譽教授。
鍾院士數十年來鑽研工程力學與計算力學,致力於相關新興學科之間的交叉與滲透,拓寬研究領域,並應用於實際工程。六十年代,研究潛水耐壓殼時提出了椎柱結合殼失穩的不利形式,已應用於我國潛艇設計規則。七十年代,以群論研究有廣義對稱性的結構,應用於電視塔及水塔系列標準設計。八十年代,提出參變數變分原理,用於解決了一批土壤力學、彈塑性、摩擦接觸、潤滑等非線性問題。九十年代,他提出了常微分方程數值求解的精細積分法,並發現了結構力學與最優控制理論的模擬關係。近年,他基於辛數學建立了分析力學與分析結構力學之間的類比關係。這些獨創性的研究工作受到國內外許多著名學者的高度讚揚與重視。
鍾院士已發表論文300餘篇,出版了17本中英文專著。鍾院士2001年獲何梁何利科學與技術進步獎,2010年獲國家自然科學二等獎,2011年獲ICCES終身成就獎。
Prof. Zhong Wanxie, an expert in engineering mechanics
and computational mechanics, was born in Shanghai
in 1934. He graduated from Tongji University in
1956, and joined the Institute of Mechanics of the
Chinese Academy of Sciences in the same year as
an assistant researcher. In 1962 he moved to Dalian
Institute of Technology (Now Dalian University of
Technology) and has been working there since then.
He was elected as a member of the Chinese Academy
of Sciences in 1993. As one of the founders of computational
mechanics in China, he has been the Chairman of
the Chinese Association for Computational Mechanics
and served as a member of the 1st-4th Executive
Council of the International Association for Computational
Mechanics. He is currently an honorary professor
of Cardiff University.
Prof. Zhong has been doing research for decades
on engineering and computational mechanics. His
research is devoted to new inter-disciplinary areas
and applications in engineering. In the 1960s, he
proposed the unfavorable form for the conical-cylindrical
combined shell and suggested a stronger form for
pressurized shell. In the 1970s, he applied the
group representation theory to the symmetric structural
analysis, which has been used for television tower
and water tank series design. In the 1980s, he proposed
the parametric variational principle in combination
with the corresponding parametric quadratic programming
method, with which a number of soil mechanics problems,
elastic-plastic, frictional contact, lubrication
non-linear problems were solved. In the 1990s, he
proposed the precise integration method for the
numerical solutions of ODE, and discovered the analogy
relationship between structural mechanics and optimal
control theory. In recent years, he has proposed
the analogy between analytical dynamics and analytical
structural mechanics based on the symplectic mathematics.
His research achievements have received wide recognition
in China and overseas countries.
Prof. Zhong published more than 300 papers and
authored 17 books. He received the Science and Technology
Progress Award of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation in
2001, the Second-class National Natural Science
Award in 2010, and the Lifetime Achievement Award
of the International Computational Conferences for
Engineering and Sciences in 2011.
