王錫凡院士,電力系統專家。1936年出生,1957年畢業于西安交通大學電氣工程系,留校任教至今,1986年晉升為教授,1981至1983年赴美國康奈爾大學作訪問科學家,1991至1993年在日本九州工業大學作客座教授。

王院士研究的領域主要包括電力系統分析、電力系統規劃和可靠性 、電力市場、新型輸電方式與可再生能源發電等。

1986年獲三峽工程建設委員會辦公室委托,完成三峽電力系統的技術及經濟可行性研究。在規劃與可靠性研究中取得多項理論性成果,被譽為引進現代運籌研究理論的中國電力系統規劃研究始創者。1994年於東京國際會議首次提出低頻輸電系統。該項輸電新技術極適合水力發電及風力發電等再生能源應用。酒臮風電現擬使用低頻風電系統作工業用途。

王錫凡院士共出版著作12本(包括英文著作4本),主要有:《電力系統計算》、《電力系統優化規劃》、《現代電力系統分析》、《電力市場基礎》、《Modern Power System Planning》、《Modern Power System Analysis》等。王院士在國內外發表論文300餘篇。

王錫凡院士迄今為止共獲省部級以上獎勵11項,包括國家教育部自然科學一等獎,陝西省科技進步一等獎及國家自然科學四等獎及國家教委科技進步一等獎等。

Prof. Wang Xifan, a power system specialist, was born in 1936. He graduated from Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1957, and since then has been serving at the School of Electrical Engineering of the university. In 1986, he was promoted to full professorship. From 1981 to 1983, he was a visiting scientist at Cornell University, US. From 1991 to 1993 he was a visiting professor at Kyushu Institute of Technology, Japan.

His research interests include power system analysis, generation planning and transmission system planning, reliability evaluation, power market and novel transmission schemes.

In 1986, commissioned by the Three Gorges Office of the National Science and Technology Commission, Prof. Wang completed the technical and economic feasibility study for the power system of the Three Gorge Project. In the planning and reliability studies, a series of theoretical results have been achieved, and he has been recognized as the founder of Power System Planning studies using the modern operational research theories in China.

In 1994, Prof. Wang proposed the fractional (low) frequency transmission system for the first time at the International Conference in Tokyo. This new electricity transmission approach is particularly suitable for renewable energy, such as hydro power and wind power. The industrializing project of the fractional frequency wind power system is under way in the Jiuquan wind power base.

Prof. Wang has authored and co-authored 12 books (including 4 English books), such as Modern Power System Planning, Modern Power System Analysis, Operation of Market-oriented Power Systems, etc. He has so far published more than 300 journal papers on the above subjects.

He has received numerous honors and awards, including the First-class Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, the First-class Shaanxi Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, the Fourth-class National Natural Science Award, and the First-class Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education.
