China is likely to be the fastest growing economy in the 21st century. Already it’s emerging as one of the most important economic powerhouses in the world and abounds with business opportunities. Now part of the World Trade Organization (WTO) China is expanding its market sector, reducing tariffs on imports, pursuing exports, enabling a new generation of joint ventures, and absorbing foreign direct investment at a record rate. Yet China’s business environment is rapidly changing and infinitely complex. People without a direct sense and feel for business dynamics in China are vulnerable to costly miscalculations. The China Business Centre (CBC) was formed in 1992 as an independent unit within The Hong Kong Polytechnic University to provide guidance on China. We provide consultancy, training, and research based on our specialist knowledge of economics, business, and market trends on the mainland. Underpinning our activities is a valuable network of contacts across Chinese government agencies, research organizations, and academic institutions. Our continuing dialogue enables us to provide authoritative and up-to-date information and insights on the mainland. Our clients include government departments, multinational corporations, financial institutions, and overseas trade bodies in Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, and overseas.
