John Biggs
Honorary Professor of Psychology

Professor John Biggs has held Chairs in Education in Canada, Australia, and Hong Kong, and is an Honorary Professor in the Department of Psychology, University of Hong Kong. He retired from the University of Hong Kong in 1995 to act as a consultant in Higher Education. He has been employed in this capacity in many institutions in Australia, Hong Kong, and the United Kingdom. He is internationally recognized for his research on how students go about learning in institutional settings, on assessing the quality of learning, and more recently on teaching and learning across cultures. He has published 17 books and over 100 articles on student learning and assessment. Recent books include:

Georgine Loacker
Senior Assessment Scholar and Professor of English

Dr. Loacker is Senior Assessment Scholar at Alverno College. While heading the English department, she participated in the development of the ability-based education and student assessment process begun there in 1973 and now internationally recognized. She continues to contribute to assessment theory through her writing and research on assessment of the individual student. Loacker has conducted workshops and seminars on teaching for and assessing student learning outcomes throughout the United States and at institutions in the UK, Canada, South Africa, Costa Rica and for six weeks in Australia and New Zealand as a Visiting Fellow of the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia. Lewis Elton

Professor Lewis Elton is Professor of Higher Education, University College London (Honorary since December 2003) and Professor Emeritus of Higher Education, University of Surrey. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Physics and of the Society for Research into Higher Education, an Honorary Life Member of the Staff and Educational Development Association, and he holds Doctorates (honoris causa) of the University of Kent at Canterbury and of the University of Gloucestershire. His main research interests are all in higher education: Innovations in Teaching and Learning, the Research/Teaching Nexus, Quality Assessment and Enhancement, Change Management.
