These two edited books titled "Enhancing Teaching and Learning through Assessment: Deriving an Appropriate Model" and "Enhancing Teaching and Learning through Assessment: Experience from the Project" are published by Springer. They consist of 56 chapters, which cover various aspects of assessment issues and experiences shared by authors from different countries.

In practice, assessment is the daily life of a teacher - designing teaching plans, setting questions, giving feedback and grading are all activities that teachers face on a regular basis.  Yet, when such activities are closely examined, there can be a stumbling block which is partially due to constraints caused by the context in which different teaching and learning activities occur and an unawareness of the effect that assessment has on the students themselves.

The book series provide a practical guide on the effective use of assessment to university teachers.  They includes the use of assessment tools, pedagogical design to help students deepen their learning.  They will be found useful to teachers when implementing various assessment methods, as well as providing focused studies of the viewpoints of stakeholders.

The specific themes highlight an awareness of the effective use of assessment itself, to look at analogies with current practices, and to present a number of implemented cases in the authors' own teaching contexts.

Major issues on assessment and some excellent examples are presented as a useful resource to university teachers in enhancing teaching and students' learning.  School administrators and teaching development professionals will also find these useful in making decisions related to learning and teaching issues in their institutions.
