Technology in Assessment

Today we hear a lot about e-assessment and its advantages. I am sure that some of you are already using some form of technology in your own assessment practices. It is helpful with both student learning and marking as it allows easy management of work submission and a timely feedback system, which are difficult to do so by using paper-based assessment.

Teachers are told that Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) enable them to become more flexible in arranging assessment tasks to facilitate complex thinking abilities like critical thinking, problem-solving and decision making. But, no matter whether it is e-portfolio, WebCT, or e-marking, if you want to develop and assess such process skills, you may be challenged to redesign the framework or even re-construct the activities that you already use.

What do you value most in using technology in assessment?
Do you encounter any difficulties in supporting students' learning in online activities?
How did you solve these problems?

You may share others’ viewpoints on this issue in our Online Forum.
