The Place of Assessment in the Curriculum: Constructive Alignment

Functions of Assessment
  • For learning – properly designed assessment tasks inform students about what they are supposed to learn. Formative assessment informs students how well they are on track during learning and how they may improve.

  • For teaching – see how well students have learned what teachers intend them to learn. Feedback to inform and improve teaching.

  • For the institution – public certification that acceptable standards have been reached.
