Assessment is an integral part
of institutional education where alignment between
teaching, learning, curriculum and assessment is essential.
While gauging student learning outcomes, it provides
informative support for the readjustment of teaching
plans. As a teacher you will be aware that assessment
affects the quality of student learning. Given effective
design and appropriate implementation, assessment
will drive students towards deeper learning approaches.
The UGC-funded teaching development project - Enhancing
Teaching and Learning through Assessment is
being used to enhance assessment in higher education
through a series of initiatives.

The Assessment Resource Centre
(ARC) is one of the project's initiatives which
aims at supporting on-going quality assurance and
improvement of assessment. The establishment of the
ARC provides both print-based and on-line support
to all those involved in higher education and to facilitate
sharing amongst worldwide teachers. While carrying
a mission of strengthening and deepening inter-institutional
collaboration, the ARC addresses a wide range of important
issues related to assessment and examines core
values through exploring, identifying, developing,
facilitating, and supporting.
The ARC website was launched during the opening ceremony of the First International Conference on Enhancing Teaching and Learning through Assessment on 13th June, 2005. Around 400 conference participants from all over the world witnessed our official opening.
