Full Curriculum Vitae

I have been teaching social work since 1980 and have taught in the Shue Yan College, the National University of Singapore and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The subjects that I have taught include: social work theory and practice, social work theories, theory and practice of social work education, community development and planning, occupational social work, and youth work. I have been involved in the curriculum planning and development processes as well as course leadership of many social work programmes at the diploma, degree and master levels and have also been responsible for fieldwork planning and coordination for many years. I was the chairperson of the Departmental Learning and Teaching Committee before I take up the headship of the department. I have also been deeply involved in the development of social work education in the Chinese Mainland since the late 1980s. I taught the first social work subject for the first cohort of social work students admitted by Peking University in 1990 and have been deeply involved in academic exchange activities with Peking University and later with many other Universities and colleges in China. In 1999/2000, our department developed the MA (Social Work in China) Programme in collaboration with the Peking University, which was the first "training of the trainers" programme tailor-made for social work educators in China. The Programme is now admitting its fourth cohort of students and is instrumental in nurturing a core group of dedicated and competent social work educators who are committed to the furtherance and indigenization of social work education in China. I have been the leader of this programme since its inception and have been involved in teaching the subjects: social work theories, social work education, and dissertation.

I have been actively involved as board members of numerous local and international NGOs, Government advisory committees, and professional bodies in Hong Kong, the Chinese Mainland and the Asia-Pacific region.
