The Mentorship Program is introduced by the University to fulfill one of its strategic objectives of the institutional strategic plan: "To enhance the all-round development of students, particularly in the areas of global outlook, critical and creative thinking, strong sense of social and national responsibility, cultural appreciation, ability to pursue life-long learning, entrepreneurship and leadership" .
Mentorship program is a series of activities that would help to develop a structuring relationship between a student, who is a mentee, and a mentor who is a mature, wise and caring member of the working world.
The Mentorship Program, through mentoring interaction, is to foster a supportive relationship and to help groom the mentee to be a "preferred graduate" in an ever increasing competitive world.
The mentor program pairs each student with an experienced business/industry personnel. This individual will act as a coach, motivator and compliance officer. A mentor is obligated to meet the student mentee at least twice a year. Both parties are encouraged to contact each other by electronic mails or other forms of communication whenever they feel the need to do so.
Under the mentoprship program, students will participate in a range of activities, which may include: meetings with the mentor, visiting the mentor's work place, and as far as possible, tours of facilities and interviews with managers or recruitment personnel. The students may also work on a mutually agreed project/task or summer placement .
The mentor-student team is 'contracted' until graduated from the University. However, they have the option to extend for subsequent years upon mutual agreement. A mentor can also take on more than one student mentee at a time.
To provide guidance and a caring environment in which student mentees can pursue their personal development. (Communication skills, organizational skills, technical skills, self learning skills, etc)
To encourage and assist mentees to develop their visions and aspirations for the future. (Goal setting, career exploration; enhancement of professional and business acumen)
