The Guidance Notes for Students for Subject Registration in 2011/12

Programme:

63020 – BSc (Hons) in Actuarial Science

 

Programme Aims:

The Programme aims to provide its students with a rigorous theoretical foundation as well as some practical training in actuarial science and risk management. The education is to develop their analytical, critical and communication skills which will enable them to become the leading professionals in insurance, pension funds administration, risk management, financial services, and related industries.

 

Minimum number of credits to be taken:

For 2005/06 to 2011/12 intakes:

To be eligible for the Award,  students are required to successfully complete 63 credits.  Including sixteen 3-credit compulsory subjects and five 3-credit elective subjects.

 

Specific requirements for the programme:

A student, unless otherwise approved by the Programme Committee, must enrol in 2 or 3 subjects in any Semester One or Semester Two.

A student may be given credit transfer for a subject on the basis of qualifications or achievements.

Elective subjects – AF2111, AF2613, AMA356 (for students intake after 2010/2011), AMA484, AMA494

Compulsory subjects – AMA151, AMA251, AMA253, AMA272, AMA354, AMA470, AMA493

Elective subjects – AF2614, AF3311, AMA263, AMA481, AMA488, AMA494
 

Semester Three:

Elective subjects
AMA355, AMA364, AMA455 and AMA465 or AMA488 (offer alternating years)

 

Students should take note of the pre-requisite(s) for each subject, if any, listed in the class timetable for 2005/06 and refer to the following different study patterns suggested by the Programme Leader before their subject registration. Students are strongly recommended NOT to take AMA493 or AMA494 in their first stage or second stage of studies.

Holders of the 3-year PolyU HDMSC (Programme Code 63002) and 2-year PolyU HDMSC (Programme Code 63018) will be given credit transfers of AMA150, AMA151 and AMA263.

Holders of PeD or Associateship in Applied Statistics will be given credit transfer of AMA150, AMA151 and AMA263. In addition, they will also be given credit transfers of the following subjects if they obtained Grade C or above in the appropriate elective subjects in PeD or Associateship: AMA465 and AMA481.

Holders of the IVE HD in Applied Statistics and Computing will be given credit transfer of AMA263 if they obtained Grade B or above in CMA5201.
