Over the past 70 years, more than 240,000 young men and
women have graduated from The Hong Kong Polytechnic
University (PolyU) and its predecessors - the Hong Kong
Polytechnic, the Hong Kong Technical College and the
Government Trade School. Serving in different sectors of
society, our graduates have made significant contributions
towards the territory's success. Independent surveys
conducted in recent years have consistently shown that PolyU graduates rank the highest in practical value to
employers and are considered the most preferred candidates
in graduate recruitment. PolyU is also the only
application-oriented university to receive a special HK$20
million award from the University Grants Committee (UGC),
in recognition of our persistent efforts and excellent
results in fulfilling our missions of providing quality
application-oriented education and excelling in applied
research.
Today, PolyU not only is the largest university in Hong
Kong in terms of number of students, we also offer the
largest number of application-oriented study programmes,
and boast the strongest partnership with the territory's
industrial and commercial sectors. With continuous reform
and innovation over the past decade, PolyU's management
quality and efficiency have won wide acclaim and
recognition from the UGC and the community at large.
PolyU has advocated and spearheaded numerous
application-oriented studies over the years, with results
that greatly sharpened the competitive edge of Hong Kong
enterprises. Such efforts have even enabled Hong Kong to
prove its technological strength to the world. In
addition to receiving a total of 82 patents, more than a
dozen of our practical applications in recent years have
won special prizes and gold or silver awards in major
world expositions and competitions themed upon invention
or innovation, including the prestigious
State Technological Invention Awards.
PolyU is in earnest
need of alternative sources of funding to support
Government's decision on adding one extra year's
curriculum to current three year undergraduate
studies; and for sustaining our endeavours in providing study programmes with high
practical value; using innovative teaching approaches to
prepare young talents to meet society's professional
needs; and developing new technologies to enhance the
competitive edge of our business sector. The PolyU
Development Foundation was set up in response to this need
to assemble sufficient resources to enable PolyU to
continue its missions. On the eve of the 70th Anniversary
of PolyU, Professor Poon Chung-kwong, the President of
PolyU, would like to invite you to join this foundation.
