Laser Safety Course
Topics: 1. Basic concepts of laser 2. Laser hazards 3. Classification of laser equipment 4. Principles of laser safety 5. Control measures of the PolyU
Course objectives:
Target group(s): Users of high-power laser equipment must have received proper laser safety training before they are authorized by their corresponding departments to operate high‑power laser equipment. Attendees of this course are considered to have fulfilled this requirement.

Laboratory Fire Safety
Topics: 1. Fire hazards in the laboratory 2. Fire safety control measures in the laboratory 3. Basic fire safety and fire emergency procedures 4. Use of firefighting equipment 5. Practical session
Course objectives: Fire is the major hazard in laboratories with flammable chemicals. This course aims at introducing basic principles of fire prevention and control measures to laboratory supervisors and users. Practical session on the use of firefighting equipment is also arranged in order that the participants will have a better knowledge in managing fire hazards in the laboratories.

Manual Lifting and Handling
Topics: 1. Legislation and Code of Practice relevant to manual handling 2. Basic anatomy of the waist and back and the effect on the back from lifting 3. Basic ergonomics 4. Causes of manual lifting injury 5. Method of correct manual lifting 6. Stretching exercises
Course objectives: This course aims at introducing the proper manual handling and lifting methods, basic knowledge on musculoskeletal problems associated with improper manual handling and preventive measures.

Laboratory Biological Safety
Topics: 1. University's Laboratory Safety Management Policy 2. Classification of bio-hazards 3. Laboratory design regarding biological safety 4. Biological safety equipment 5. Safe laboratory practices 6. Disposal of biological waste 7. Emergency procedures
Course objectives: This course aims at introducing biological safety management for laboratory supervisors and equipping users of biological agents with better knowledge on biological safety practices so that they can manage biohazardous agents in good order and work safely in the laboratory respectively.
