Mr. Ng Yiu Man, Louis
BA(Hons) in Language Studies with Business
The Outstanding Student 2006, Faculty of Communication
Human Resources Officer (Staff Relation & Communications)
My four-year PolyU experience was truly rewarding and unforgettable. There were always numerous opportunities for the students in both academic and personal development. The professors and staff were very supportive and provided constant guidance on my studies and career plan. I was first admitted to a Higher Diploma at PolyU and I was glad to continue pursuing the Bachelor Degree Programme at the University.
Besides my academic pursuit, I was an active participant in the Students’ Union and extra-curricular activities organized by Student Affairs Office. The most significant ones were my overseas internship in a communication agency “New York City” through the “Preferred Graduate Development Programme” and exchange trip with 29 elites under Global Citizenship Programme. The internship not only provides me an opportunity to apply what I have learnt in class into the workplace, but also gives me exposure of working and living in a multicultural environment. I have learnt to be able to think with global mindset and communicate with people from various backgrounds. These skills are essential to my present career in communication.
Co-organized by PolyU and Cathay Pacific Airways, “I Can Fly Programme” was another highlight of my university life. As a Student Coordinator of the programme, I was involved in a 18-month corporate social responsibility (CSR) project through leading a team of 20 local and international school students and cooperating with corporate communication team in Cathay Pacific. Working on such a large-scale project helped further develop my skills in problem solving, time management and leadership. This experience helped determine my career aspiration in communication and the project was closely related to my current job as I am often assigned with CSR projects in the company.
My motto is “to seize every opportunity and maximize your potential”. 3 or 4 years of university life seems to be very long but time indeed passes quickly before you realize it. Thus, as a graduate, my advice is to make your PolyU experience as fruitful and colourful as possible and treasure every opportunity that comes across you.
